How Mr. Olivera's QPS Literacy Hub works β every phonics stop, the reading path, and how each child's plan is set.
What the QPS hub is
The district checks phonics with the Wonders Quick Phonics Screener (QPS): a child reads one section at a time, from letter sounds up to prefixes and suffixes, and the screener stops at the first section they have not mastered.
Mr. Olivera's QPS Literacy Hub turns every section into a practice stop on the Chromebook, numbered like the screener. Each child practices the section where the screener stopped them, between the official screenings.
Who it is for
Every student has a plan. A child the screener stopped at a section practices that stop. A child who passed every section gets the reading path instead. Students practice on their own while Mr. Olivera teaches a small group at his table.

How every phonics stop works
Every stop has the same five parts. Click a part to see what happens in it.
The reading path β for students who passed every section
A child who passed every section of the screener does not need a phonics stop. They get three reading courses, one at a time, in this order. Each course has four levels; a level is passed by passing its Check twice.
Is this teaching to the test?
No. The hub teaches the skill each screener section measures, never the screener's own words.
The test words are never practiced. They are used only once, by Mr. Olivera, as his test β so passing it shows the skill works on words the child has never practiced.
The practice goes past the screener. The screener has a child read words aloud; the hub also has them hear and sort sounds, change one sound to make a new word, build words, and spell.
The screener's sections are the phonics standards. Each stop matches a Common Core Foundational Skills standard, listed on its page.
Moving on by itself
Two passed Checks move a child to the next stop at once. Mr. Olivera's dashboard then lists the stop he still has to test.
Made-up words
Like the screener, the site uses made-up words (zade, gok), so a child must sound them out. None of them is a screener test word.
Mr. Olivera's voice
The letter and chunk sounds are his own recordings. Every word and answer choice the site says was checked by his ear.
Read aloud
Directions and lessons are read aloud and must be heard to the end before a step opens. Maze stories are silent, like the real test.
Records
Every Check is saved to the results sheet. Mr. Olivera's dashboard shows each child's stop, passes, misses and who is waiting for his test.
Privacy
No student's name is written in this site. Where each child starts is read from the hub's track list, and names show only after the teacher PIN.
All the phonics stops in the screener's order, and the reading path after them. Click any stop or course to see what it reviews, its standard and level, real practice words, and how it is passed.
