How Mr. Olivera's Lab works — every strand, every lesson, and why each one is there.
The Lab is a set of short lessons on a Chromebook, each one made for the child who takes it. It sits beside the regular Grade 4 lessons, never in place of them: Lab students still do every class module with the class.
It exists because of the numbers. On the Grade 3 SBAC (Spring 2026), 17 of 22 students in this class were at Level 1 in ELA and 12 of 22 in math. This fall's interim tests showed the same gaps, skill by skill.
Every child gets the strands that match their own results: the basics for the students furthest behind, stretch work for the middle and top. Kids work in the Lab during specials and WIN time, and the teacher circulates.
Loading how many students are on each strand…
Every lesson has the same five parts. Click a part to see what happens in it.
A lesson mixes in the child's own past mistakes from the class sites, and notices when the same kind of mistake comes back.
A lesson passes at 75%; math-facts lessons at 90%. A retry teaches the same way again with new numbers or new stories.
Lessons go in order. Math and reading take turns. Some strands wait until an earlier strand is passed.
Every question, choice and story is read aloud, and must be heard to the end before the child can go on.
Every try is saved to the results sheet; the teacher's dashboard shows each child's progress, the mistakes they repeat, and who is stuck.
No student's name is written in the Lab or in this site. Who is on which plan comes from the results sheet; each child's evidence stays on the teacher's computer.
All the lessons, strand by strand, in the order a child meets them. Click any lesson to see what it reviews, its standard and level, a real question from it, and why it is in the Lab.
Why a child is given each strand — the rule for each one, and the results behind it. (Each child's own evidence is kept on the teacher's computer, not on the web.)
