An object is a thing. A ball is an object. A car is an object. A book is an object.
You will be the scientist. A scientist is a person who asks a question,
then tests to find the answer.
You will run tests. A test is a way to try something and see what happens.
In each test you will measure how far a thing travels before the thing stops. How far a
thing travels is called the distance. The distances you measure will tell you
the answer.
Why should you care?
Stopping is everywhere in your life. Sometimes stopping is what keeps you safe.

Starting and Stopping
You already started this lesson.
Step 1 · Words you need, one at a time
Six words for today
What you will do —
A prediction is your best guess before the test. A prediction is not graded right or wrong. Scientists write a prediction down before the test. After the test, scientists check the prediction.

Step 4 · Explain like a scientist
Claim, Evidence, Reasoning
Put all three in your answer
How long — about 3 sentences
Write your explanation in your own words. The buttons under the box put words straight into your writing
— tap one and keep going from there. The Turn in button turns green when your
answer is long enough. Nothing is lost if you stop and come back.
